Paul Marnef – Contemporary Belgian artist photographer of tiny planets

A professional photographer for several years, I live my passion through the lens, where each shot becomes an opportunity to capture the beauty and emotion of a moment. Photography is much more than a job for me, it is a means of expression, an art that allows me to show another vision of the world. My activities as an artistic photographer allow me to combine technique and creativity, to bring unique and meaningful images to life.

My career began as a press photographer in the field of photojournalism, a demanding environment where versatility and speed of execution are essential. This reporting work allowed me to perfect my technical skills and adapt to new technologies and photographic tools to optimize shooting. As I evolved in this environment, I quickly felt the need to open up to other forms of artistic expression, which led me to specialize in photography of tiny planets.

Paul Marnef Pendant Une Exposition

Paul Marnef

A Unique Journey: From Press to Fine Art Photography

Before dedicating himself to fine art photography, Paul Marnef was a professional press photographer. He worked for photo agencies in Belgium and France, notably the prestigious Sipa Press. Simultaneously, he managed or led several photo news agencies, operating in environments where urgency, communication, and immediacy reigned supreme.

For over ten years, he also worked immersed within the European institutions as a contractor for the European Parliament's photography service. This experience honed his eye but also led him to move away from institutional communication and reconnect with a more authentic form of expression.

It was in this context that he turned to fine art photography. A foray into panoramic photography, followed by the creation of virtual tours, paved the way for a more artistic creative process. His meeting with a British agency colleague marked a turning point: the latter invited him to exhibit his works at the Liberty Gallery, then to participate in his first prestigious exhibition at the Affordable Art Fair Brussels.

My Identity as a Contemporary Belgian Photographer of Mini Planets

I fully embrace my status as a visual artist and photographer.

My work is not limited to taking photographs; it is a creative process of artistic photography rooted in time, perspective, transformation, and intention.
As a photographic artist, I conceive of each work as an autonomous universe, a visual recomposition of reality, imbued with meaning and emotion.
My photographs are original works of art, designed to be integrated into a private collection, a gallery exhibition, or a wall installation.

The Imaginary Planets: Between Photography, Poetry, and Contemporary Art

The Imaginary Planets series is now the artistic signature of Paul Marnef, a Belgian visual artist. Created from 360° spherical panoramic photographs, these works are then transformed to become veritable visual planets. Each creation becomes an immersive contemporary art photograph, where forms, lines, and materials interact in a unique composition.

These images, though rooted in reality, are digitally reinterpreted to evoke dreamlike, suspended, floating worlds. This poetics of recomposition is central to her approach as a photographic artist. It is not about documenting, but about creating. Each photograph is an autonomous work of art, the result of in-depth aesthetic and technical reflection.

  • A personal visual composition
  • A consistent photographic and graphic approach
  • High-quality photo printing choices (lab, inks, papers, etc.)
  • A clearly defined authorial voice
In short, Paul Marnef is a professional artist photographer who creates and distributes his work according to the most demanding standards of contemporary art photography.
