Fine art photographs to see the world differently
I create fine art photographs that transform landscapes, trees, cities, or fragments of everyday life into circular, poetic, and unexpected worlds. Each Imaginary Planet is an invitation to look at our surroundings in a new light.

Photographic works to collect, give as gifts, or experience every day.
Each Imaginary Planet is conceived as a work of art in its own right. Some creations naturally find their place in large format in a living room, office, reception area, or private collection. Others are available in more accessible formats, perfect for starting a collection or gifting an original fine art photograph.
All my creations are offered in limited editions, with several fine art finishes depending on the piece. The objective always remains the same: to preserve the visual power of the image, the quality of the print, and the emotion felt when viewing the work.

About Imaginary Planets
Imaginary Planets was born from my desire to transform reality into a more poetic, circular, and unexpected world. Using landscapes, trees, cities, coastlines, architectural fragments, or details of plant life, I create art photographs that invite a shift in perspective.
Each work begins with a real photograph. Yet, the final image doesn't simply aim to represent a place. It offers a different way of seeing it. A beach, a field, a building facade, a solitary tree, or an everyday element can become a small planet, a suspended world, an inner space, an almost dreamlike form.
With this series, I hope to create works that speak of nature, memory, balance, solitude, light, and imagination. Imaginary Planets are contemporary photographs, but they maintain a strong connection to the landscape, the territory, and the emotion felt at the moment the photograph was taken.
Art Photography Between Reality and Imagination
My work always begins with an encounter with reality. I photograph a place, an atmosphere, a light, or a situation that captures my attention. It might be an open landscape, a tree in the countryside, a harbor, an architectural detail, a garden, a city, or a fragment of nature.
Then, the image is transformed into a more personal photographic work. Composition, lines, colors, textures, and perspectives take on new importance. The initial subject remains, but it is shifted toward a more internal realm.
It is this tension that interests me: preserving a trace of reality while opening the door to the imagination. Photography then becomes a passage between what we recognize and what we discover. It no longer simply documents a place; it creates a presence, an atmosphere, a feeling.
In my art photographs, I seek to create that particular moment when the viewer no longer knows exactly whether they are looking at a landscape, a planet, a memory or a mental image.
Mini Planets: Another Way of Seeing the World
Mini planets play a significant role in my work. They allow me to transform a real environment into a circular, almost self-contained world. This form immediately adds another dimension to the image. The landscape seems to fold in on itself, as if becoming a complete universe.
This visual process interests me because it alters our relationship to space. What was in front of us becomes around us. What seemed ordinary becomes strange. A road, a tree, a beach, a building, or a field can suddenly take on the appearance of a small, suspended world.
But I don't consider the mini planet a mere graphic effect. For me, it becomes a way of telling the world differently. It focuses the gaze. It creates a kind of poetic distance. It transforms a real place into an original photographic creation.
That's why I also use the expression Imaginary Planets. It better reflects my artistic approach. It is not just about creating circular images, but about giving birth to visual worlds that carry emotion, atmosphere and a touch of mystery.
Limited Edition Works for Collectors
Each Imaginary Planet is offered as a unique photographic artwork. My photographs are not conceived as mere decorative images or simple reproductions, but as original art prints, produced in limited editions, intended for art lovers, collectors, and those who wish to live with a powerful, personal, and lasting artistic photograph.
Each photographic print is considered an art object. It is not simply an image to be viewed on a screen, but a printed photograph, chosen for its format, paper, finish, and its ability to interact with an interior. This material dimension is essential to my work: a piece truly comes into its own when it is printed, framed, hung, and viewed in a real space.
The limited edition gives each creation a special value. It preserves the rarity of the work and respects the connection between the artist, the image, and the person who acquires it. Owning a limited-edition photograph means choosing a work that is not endlessly reproduced, but rather offered in a carefully curated series, with meticulous attention paid to each individual print.
This approach situates my creations within a logic of collecting, transmission, and longevity. The format, the medium, the finish, the numbering, and the print quality all contribute fully to the final presence of the image. Acquiring a limited-edition fine art photograph means entering a unique visual universe, but also choosing a work destined to endure.
Original, signed, and numbered prints
Each artwork available on my website is offered in a limited edition, depending on the chosen format and finish. This approach preserves the rarity of each creation and reinforces its status as an original print. A limited-edition fine art photograph does not follow the same logic as an image reproduced without control: it is part of an artistic process, a collector's endeavor, and a means of transmission.
The numbering of the prints contributes to this requirement. It allows each copy to be identified within the limits of the intended edition. Depending on the artwork, the prints may be signed and numbered, with essential information related to the title, format, finish, and edition. For the buyer, these elements provide a better understanding of the work and its place within the series.
This attention to limited editions is important for collectors, but also for anyone wishing to purchase an original photographic work. It distinguishes a true fine art photograph from a simple poster or decorative print. It gives the image a more unique, more lasting and more personal value.
Fine Art Finishes to Reveal Each Creation
The quality of the photographic print is essential to my work. A fine art photograph is not limited to a digital file. It truly comes into its own when it becomes a printed photograph, a visual object, a tangible presence, a work that can be viewed, framed, and hung in a real space.
That's why I offer my creations in several fine art finishes, depending on the artwork, the format, and the desired effect. Some images lend themselves particularly well to a bright and contemporary finish. Others call for a softer, more textured, or more classic approach, with fine art paper, matte paper, baryta paper, or a more rigid support.
Depending on the piece, the works can be presented on fine art paper, mounted on a rigid support, on Dibond aluminum, under acrylic glass, or with a float frame. The choice of finish depends on the image, its format, its colors, its contrasts, and the desired hanging method.
The support strongly influences the perception of the artwork. A glossy or luminous finish can intensify colors and depth. A more matte fine art paper can bring greater softness, nuance, and subtlety. Mounting on a rigid support can give the photograph a more contemporary, refined, almost architectural presence.
For me, the fine art print is a fundamental step. It extends the photographic creation and allows the image to find its true place in a home, a gallery, an office, or a private collection. The finish is therefore not a mere technical detail: it fully contributes to the final identity of the artwork.
A high-end photo print designed to last
A fine art print must respect the image, but also guarantee true quality over time. The choice of paper, support, inks, and photo lab therefore plays an essential role. A photographic work intended for collecting requires high print quality, fine detail, good color stability, and great attention to nuance.
Depending on the materials and processes used, printing can highlight intense colors, deep blacks, sharpness, or a more subtle texture. Pigment inks, pH-neutral papers, natural fiber papers, and high-end fine art papers all contribute to the longevity and durability of the print.
I pay particular attention to this stage, as printing is when the image truly becomes a work of art. A high-quality photographic print should not only be beautiful at first glance. It must retain its presence, balance, contrasts, and visual impact over time.
This requirement applies equally to color prints, more graphic creations, and black and white works. The depth of the blacks, the subtlety of the grays, the precision of the details, the color balance, and the sharpness of the image all contribute to the final quality of the printed photograph. Every technical choice must serve the emotion of the work, without ever overpowering it.

Buying art online requires trust. That's why I present my creations as clearly as possible: title, image, formats, finishes, price, and edition information. The goal is to allow everyone to take the time to look, return, compare, and choose the piece that truly speaks to them.
The works presented in my online gallery are available for sale according to the formats and finishes offered for each piece. This presentation allows you to choose a fine art photograph for sale, taking into account the image, format, medium, and where it will be displayed.
Buying a photographic artwork online also means taking the time to choose an image that resonates with you. Some people are looking for a highly graphic piece, others a more poetic, luminous, botanical, urban, or contemplative image. The Imaginary Planets offers this diversity while maintaining a strong visual identity.
Some people are looking for a statement piece for a living room, entryway, office, or professional space. Others want to start a collection with a more accessible format. Still others are looking for an artistic, personal, and lasting gift. The Imaginary Planets can fulfill these different desires by offering original photographic works in various formats and finishes.
Artwork for an Interior, a Collection, or a Gift
An art photograph transforms a space
It doesn't simply fill a wall: it creates a focal point, a presence, an atmosphere. An Imaginary Planet can bring color, silence, depth, movement, or a more contemplative dimension to an interior.
In a living room, it can become a centerpiece. In an office, it can offer a visual respite. In a reception area, it can create a strong and unique impression. In a private collection, it can engage in a dialogue with other contemporary works.
Some creations are particularly well-suited to large formats. They need space to reveal their details, lines, and graphic power. Others work very well in more accessible formats, allowing one to enter the world of art photography with an original, limited-edition piece.
Giving an art photograph as a gift can also be a very personal gesture. Unlike a standardized object, a carefully chosen work carries an emotion, a story, and an intention. It can become a lasting gift, linked to a person, a place, or a feeling.
Framing, Hanging, and Living with a Fine Art Photograph
Choosing a fine art photograph also means considering how it will be displayed in an interior. The size, the frame, the support, and the hanging method strongly influence the perception of the work. A large art photograph can become the focal point of a living room, an office, or a reception area. A more intimate format can create a more discreet, yet equally impactful, presence.
Some works can be presented with a float frame, a simple frame, a mat, a glass mount, or a more contemporary finish on a rigid support. Others gain power when presented without an apparent frame, with a clean finish that allows the image to take center stage.
The goal is not only to protect the print, but to provide it with a true setting. A well-framed, well-hung, and well-lit photograph reveals its full depth. It becomes a photographic tableau, a living artwork in space, capable of transforming the atmosphere of a room.
The choice of location is also important. A photographic work does not produce the same effect in a bright living room, an office, a hallway, a bedroom, a reception area, or a meeting room. The available distance, the wall color, natural light, and surrounding furniture all influence how the image will be perceived.
This is also why I offer several formats. Some interiors call for a strong, almost monumental piece. Others call for a softer, more discreet, more intimate presence. In all cases, the objective remains the same: to allow the photograph to find its rightful place and continue to live in the eyes of the person who chose it.
Paul Marnef, Belgian Photographer
I am Paul Marnef, a Belgian photographer and creator of Imaginary Planets. My work lies at the intersection of contemporary photography, transformed landscapes, visual poetry, and digital creation. I am interested in places, shapes, colors, and details that can become the starting point for an imaginary world.
My works often originate from real landscapes: Belgium, France, coastlines, cities, countryside, gardens, ports, or places I have encountered during my travels. But once transformed, these places become something else. They transcend their documentary function to enter a more personal universe.
As a photographer, I consider each creation the result of a gaze, a shot, a framing, a compositional process, and careful post-processing. My images are neither classic reportage nor studio shoots: they belong to a more personal exploration, somewhere between photographic art, transformed landscapes, abstraction, the memory of places, and contemporary photography.
My approach is rooted in a reflection on the art of photography: how can an image transcend its descriptive function? How can a photograph taken in a real place become an imaginary work? How can a print preserve the trace of a moment while simultaneously opening onto an inner world?
With Imaginary Planets, I seek to create photographs that encourage us to slow down our gaze. I aim to offer works accessible on multiple levels: they can be appreciated for their form, their color, their strangeness, their gentleness, or their more symbolic dimension.
Each creation is an invitation to look at our surroundings differently. A tree, a field, a shoreline, a building facade, or a fragment of everyday life can contain a world. Sometimes, all it takes is a change of perspective for it to appear.
