How to decorate your interior with red works of art?

Decorating your home with red artwork can truly enhance the ambiance of a room, primarily due to the warmth and emotional intensity this color evokes. However, to harmonize these pieces within your decor, it's essential to understand the nuances and color combinations that will create a balanced and pleasing atmosphere.

Red in Decor: A Warm, Trendy, and Vibrant Color

Red in decor is more than just a trend: it's a statement of character.

Today, this strong and warm color is making its mark in interiors that want to express something. It is at once lively, sensual, and profound.

From vibrant vermilion to soft brick red, all the way to intense burgundy, red in decor allows you to structure a space, create visual focal points, and above all, evoke emotion.

Why choose red for your interior design?

Because red:
  • is a warm color that creates a cozy atmosphere
  • brings energy without being overwhelming
  • suits any room: living room, entryway, bedroom, or office
  • is the most expressive shade in the 2025 decor palette
Red can be found in natural shades like brick red, more sophisticated versions like burgundy, or even in vibrant tones like vermilion.

How to best incorporate red artwork into your decor?

When it comes to integrating red artwork into your interior design, it's important to consider color palettes.

Red, which is classified as a warm color, can be paired with other colors to avoid overwhelming the space.

For example, by using neutral tones such as beige, taupe, or even shades of light gray and black and white, you can create a calming contrast that will highlight the red artwork without overpowering it.

Harmonizing a Color Scheme with Art Photographs

An interesting approach is to introduce warm, monochromatic hues into art photographs, for example, by combining red with shades of coral, magenta, and even violet.

This creates a color scheme that, while vibrant, blends harmoniously.

Shades of Red in Decor

Among the most commonly used shades in interior design:
  • Vermilion: vibrant and sunny
  • Brick: earthy and comforting
  • Burgundy: deep and elegant
  • Fire red: powerful and expressive
These shades of red allow you to create a rich palette, which can be used as a complete look, in contrast, or simply as an accent color.

What about complementary colors to red to best showcase a red artwork?

Furthermore, a touch of a complementary color, such as green, by adding a few accents in cushions or curtains, can also help reinforce this contrast while providing visual variety.

For decorating walls with art photographs like tiny planets, opting for a light-colored wall paint, such as off-white or a light pastel blue, can serve as an ideal backdrop for red artwork. This will brighten the space and highlight the luminosity of the reds, creating an atmosphere that is both dynamic and inviting. It is also wise to consider the lighting in the space. Good lighting is crucial to appreciate every shade of red. If possible, choose light fixtures that provide warm light to emphasize the warm pigments in the artwork. Light colors and lacquered or satin surfaces can also help reflect light, adding to the feeling of richness by playing with color saturation.

Good lighting is essential to enhance a photographic artwork.

In my Imaginary Planets series, light doesn't just illuminate the image; it reveals it.

When a work incorporates shades of red - a powerful color, evocative of passion, warmth, or alertness—poor lighting can betray it, making the hues appear dull or overly harsh.

Conversely, well-considered lighting, whether directional or diffused, warm or neutral, enhances the depth of red and reveals all its subtleties: the purple gradations, the carmine highlights, the areas of contrast that make the composition vibrate. A well-balanced light then transforms the art photograph into a sensory experience, capturing the eye and evoking emotion.

In an interior setting, lighting becomes the artwork's silent partner, revealing its poetry, its strength, its truth.

Which red art print should you choose for your decor?

When it comes to selecting specific pieces, you can alternate between vibrant Fine Art prints and softer creations, such as velvet prints or acrylic wall art.

Combining contemporary photographs with cooler hues like blues or turquoises can also bring a sense of freshness and balance to the space.

Each room has its own color scheme.

In a bedroom, you could choose red artwork with linen or velvet accents for a cozy and warm atmosphere. Conversely, in a living room or office, opt for a decor that uses red artwork as a focal point, framing each piece with neutral or dark colors, such as dark blue or black and white, to create a captivating visual dynamic.

Red in My Photographs: An Artistic Vision of Color

In my Imaginary Planets series, I explore red as a visual material.

Each photograph offers a different way of introducing red into an interior setting.

A few examples from the red collection:

  • Golden Whirl: an explosion of red light, ideal for a bold and sunny decor
  • Pauline: graphic simplicity and a minimal touch of red
  • Zen Kitesurfer: the red of the sky embraces the water in perfect balance
  • Burst of Tranquility: a soothing, almost meditative red
All works are available as limited edition, numbered art prints with a certificate of authenticity.

In conclusion

To successfully decorate your interior with red artwork, it is crucial to carefully choose the colors that surround it. Consider creating a balanced palette, playing with various shades, hues, and tones, while also incorporating complementary colors or soft touches of pastels. This way, you'll perfectly harmonize your spaces while celebrating the power and beauty of red in your interior design.
