How to combine green in interior design?

Everything you need to know to create a 100% green decor

Green is a must-have color in interior design. From sage green to forest green, including olive green, emerald green, and mint green, each shade of green has the power to transform a space.

Soothing, natural, and vibrant, green in decor brings a touch of green to any interior style. But what other colors can you pair this green with to create a harmonious ambiance? And how can you make green the true star of your decor?

This guide helps you create a balanced, elegant, and contemporary green decorative palette.

Why choose green in your decor?

Green is a symbolic color, evoking nature, growth, balance, and vitality. In a room, it creates a climate of serenity or energy, depending on its tone. Green wall decor, a green living room, an entryway painted olive green… These are all examples that are becoming increasingly common in the world of green decor.

Unlike some cooler shades, green pairs easily with other colors. It becomes a stable color base for your walls, furniture, accessories, or artwork.

Combining Green: Which Colors Work Best?

Here are the best color combinations with green for a successful decor.

1. Green and White: A Fresh Duo

Combining light green (such as mint green, sea green, or sage green) with white creates a bright and refined green decor. White enhances the green color by giving it space to breathe.

Example: a sage green wall, white furniture, and an artistic green photograph, mounted on a glossy white backing (Chromaluxe).

2. Green and Green: Natural Monochrome

Daring to go all-green is a strong trend. Playing with several shades of green in the same room (olive green, moss green, emerald green) creates depth and a green cocoon effect.

A triptych of photos in shades of green can be an artistic focal point in a green room.

3. Green and Wood: Naturalness and Warmth

Light or dark wood pairs very well with green, especially in Scandinavian or country chic styles. This combination immediately evokes nature: green plants, tree trunks, leaves, etc.

Pair a forest green wall with natural wood flooring for a soothing green ambiance.

4. Green and Pale Yellow: Light and Energy

Rather than saturated colors like mustard or curry (which distort the vocabulary), favor very pale yellows or creams, which bring light without upsetting the green.

Example: an olive green sofa accented with straw yellow cushions, in a room painted a soft green.

5. Green and Gray: Green Modernity

Light or dark gray works well with deep greens (fir green, bottle green). The gray acts as a discreet support, allowing the green to visually dominate the room.

A fine art photo in shades of green, hung on a dark green wall (see some examples of my In Situ photos), surrounded by light gray furniture, creates a contemporary and artistic effect.

6. Green and black: for a bold green decor

Black accentuates the contrast and adds depth to a green decor. Reserved for modern or industrial interiors. Ideal for an entryway painted emerald green with black metal details.

Tip: Opt for a monochrome green photo print mounted on a matte black backing for a designer touch.

Incorporating Green Through Wall Photography

One of the best ways to incorporate green into your interior design, without repainting or replacing all your furniture, is to opt for green photographic works.

In my collection of mini photographic planets, several pieces showcase the color green in all its richness: mossy greens, aquatic greens, country greens, celestial greens, and more.

These green photo prints are available in limited editions, in small or large formats, with high-end finishes (Chromaluxe, Plexi FineArt, Alu Dibond). They create an artistic, elegant, and durable green decor.

The Best Shades of Green to Choose

Sage green is ideal for a Zen, minimalist, or Scandinavian decor. It pairs perfectly with white or light wood for a soft, natural ambiance.
Olive green, warmer, fits well with a Mediterranean or bohemian style. It pairs well with pale yellow, natural wood, or even a deeper forest green.
Emerald green brings a chic and contemporary touch to any room. For an elegant effect, pair it with black, charcoal gray, or gold accents.
Forest green, deep and enveloping, is perfect for cozy or nature-inspired interiors. It combines harmoniously with beige, brown, or plant elements.
Mint green, more vibrant and bright, is perfect for a fresh and youthful decor. Pair it with white, light gray, or other light greens like sea green.

Conclusion: Dare to go green, assert your style.

Green in interior design is much more than a trend. It's a sure bet, capable of transforming any space by infusing it with plant-based energy, visual serenity, and profound originality.

By choosing to place green at the center of your decor, you create a unique universe, both natural and refined. Whether it's with a green wall, a green wall piece, or a series of green photographic prints, you give your home an aesthetic and personal signature.
